Summary
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for providing safe, dependable electrical power to the company plants and their equipment. He is responsible for the design, estimate, and installation of electrical power and electronic control systems. Projects are often followed from design conception through supervision of installation and operator training. The position requires working closely with Maintenance, Production and Engineering Departments.
Responsible for investigating instrument and control requirements, developing specifications, and recommending the purchase of instruments and controls to provide effective measurement and control of company equipment. He maintains and calibrates instruments and controls.
Essential Functions
This position requires working closely with the Maintenance, Production and Engineering departments. The individual must possess excellent written and oral communications skills and be computer literate.
EE Additional Responsibilities
1. Work closely with the Maintenance and Production departments to ensure continuous operation of the manufacturing plants.
2. Provide engineering consulting for the other departments and plants as required.
3. Work with in-house and qualified outside engineers to develop designs, plans and specifications. Provide cost estimates, design, procurement and installation for electrical power and control equipment requirements.
- Work as a project engineer on installation of new facilities and equipment. Direct outside contractors and supervise Maintenance during their portion of the installation.
- Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment when requested and direct Maintenance Department on proper repairs.
- Has responsibility and authority to shut down manufacturing equipment when continued operation would result in damage to equipment, product or cause injury to personnel.
- Maintain proper documentation/drawings of in-plant equipment.
- Spot checks for major electrical equipment overloading and hazard conditions.
- Inspects and is responsible for the maintenance of the plant power distribution equipment.
- Stay up to date with the requirements of the National Electrical Code and verify that electrical work that is done in the plants conforms to the requirements of the Code.
- Experience with medium voltage distribution and switch gear operation is preferred.
IS Additional Responsibilities
- Supervises Instrument Specialist and technicians.
- Maintains procedures and records for calibration of plant instruments.
- Conducts studies on equipment requiring control and measurement and determines instrumentation needs based on production and quality requirements.
- Determines specifications for control and measurement.
- Investigates commercially available controls and instruments with vendors and determines if available equipment meets specifications.
- Directs vendors to modify controls and instruments so that they will meet Special Metals Corporation requirements.
- Recommends the purchase of controls and instruments.
- Oversees the installation of controls and instruments.
- Evaluate data performance and issues reports to the Supervisor, Facilities control on his data.
- Modify existing controls and instruments when required to improve their performance.
- Directs the calibration and maintenance of existing equipment.
- Maintains a safe working area, ensures that safe working practices are developed and implemented and actively participates in plant safety programs which include safety contacts and monthly safety meetings.
- Supervise and conduct 15 Bar Mill temperature surveys throughout the year.
- Review and update calibration sheets to improve process measurement techniques and satisfy customer requirements.
- Maintain the necessary inventory of spare parts to insure quick repairs of equipment.
- Provide technical support to various labs thus minimizing the cost of calling in outside service engineers.
Ensure the safe working practices are developed and implemented.
Qualifications
Competencies
· Basic background knowledge of metals manufacturing
Education and Experience
Bachelor in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Power is required. Must have at least three year’s experience in a medium voltage power environment and demonstrated supervisory experience.
Special Skills
· Computer literacy is a requirement to include but not limited to: AutoCAD, MS Project, Excel
· Ability to interface with any person in the organization.
· Organizational and Project Management skills with attention to detail.
· Reliable attendance and good communication skills are essential.
· Ability to work in a high pressure environment.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $135,000.00 per year
